My latest obsession: natural pastels. Yes, you read that right.

Faded washes of pastel shades are popping up everywhere right now. From fast fashion sites to SS20, these fresh takes on traditional springy hues are taking over.

“She had expressed herself, as women will, in a smug broadside of pastel shades.”

Forget everything you know about pastels. These are not your mother's '80s church florals.

pistachio

This light sage shade dominated the runways during SS20 fashion week. Among other muted colors, pistachio debuted in the form of flowing silk a-lines and light-wearing satin suits. This color was seen at countless notable shows, including Marc Jacobs, Ulla Johnson and Alexandre Vaulthier.

lilac

Light hues of purple are a Spring staple. However, this shade somehow combines paleness and vibrancy to create a feminine, yet modern take on a classic. In the spirit of androgyny, this traditionally dainty shade is now being seen splashed on tailored suits and sheer layers.

baby blue

The universal symbol for a sunny summer day: blue skies. Light blue is another SS commonality, but this year, it's the prints that really bring this shade to life. Baby blue is popping up on the runway and in commerce. Mid-tier brands like Missguided, Nasty Gal and Forever 21 recently filled their shelves with this peppy pigment. We all know that gingham has blown up on blogs and trendy Instagram accounts in the past year. When combined with baby blue, bold patterns like this create the 'it' look for this summer.
