Sweater Vests and Becoming a Grandpa

Grandpa-chic is here for Fall 2020! Should I be nervous...?

When my dad handed me a pile of old sweater vests at the beginning of quarantine, I was left wondering WTF I was supposed to do with them. Little did I know he was manifesting one of the biggest F/W20 trends.

I decided to use my sub par DIY skills (courtesy of Tik Tok) to revamp one of the vests by bleaching, cutting, and adding some safety pins for a little edge. Of course, sweater vests are now populating every major fast fashion retailer.

This H&M sweater vest has been everywhere in recent weeks, so much so that it's completely sold out. The houndstooth print and oversized look lend a more modern take on the traditionally mens' formalwear. You can try to find this exact piece on Depop, Curtsy or elsewhere or get this SHEIN dupe for 16 bucks.

If you're looking for a more street style way to wear a vest, try doubling up on the transition trends and pair it with a tennis skirt. Add some chucks, and you're set.

I don't know where this trend came from but I think I'm happy about it. I'm a huge fan of layering, and I can definitely see myself settling a sweater vest over a super feminine blouse and some leather pants come winter time.

My question now is: do I have to start consulting my father on upcoming fashion trends?
