The rise of Tik Tok trends have brought a whole new series of trends to the forefront of fashion. The '60s and '70s saw a flash flood of tie-dye, which has ebbed and flowed through the style landscape over the past few decades. Last year, we were introduced to the modern definition of tie-dye with pastel shades and demure hues paired with casual ensembles. Influencers like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner rocked these looks on the runway and in the streets.

The tie-dye sweatsuit has emerged as a front runner for trendy, cheap fashion in the past few months. TikTok stars like Charli D'Amelio brought this trend to social media, which many have been able to recreate and share on their own profiles.

My question is: how long will it last? Even though tie-dye is a recurring trend, I'm not sure we will be so gung-ho on wearing our dads' old Champion sweats and oversized bleached hoodies a year from now.

“Will we be so gung-ho on wearing our dads' old Champion sweats a year from now?”

This achromatic trend has had quite the affect on street style and runway. We're seeing it everywhere, from Instagram to NYFW.

The beauty of tie-dye is its versatility. Contrary to what one may think when confronted with its audacious appearance, tie dye can be styled many ways. Modern street style has the infinite capacity to transform. A pair of leather pants can be paired with a chunky dad sneakers and a hoodie for a casual outfit. Add some chains and a sleek high pony, and the look automatically has Instagram potential.

Is tie-dye here to stay? Only time will tell. With fashion's ever-evolving nature, I would be shocked if this trend didn't make another appearance in the next decade. For now, tie-dye is a great way to entertain oneself while stuck in quarantine. It's cost-effective, and if you use hand-me-downs, it's eco-conscious, too.

Catch me (a 22 year-old college graduate) stalking TikTok celebs for the next few months for inspo.
